Eligibility for Reduction of Medical Expenses

This page explains the reduced rate and eligibility for medical expense reduction.

  • Recipients of the Order of Military Merit or the Order of National Security Merit
    Reduced Rate : 60% of user-paid medical expenses

    Persons provided for in Articles 4(1)7 and 4(1)8 of the Act on the Honorable Treatment of and Support for Persons of Distinguished Service to the State

  • Persons of merit for the April 19 Revolution
    Reduced Rate : 60% of user-paid medical expenses

    Persons provided for in Article 4(1)12 of the Act on the Honorable Treatment of and Support for Persons of Distinguished Service to the State

  • Special contributors to national and social development
    Reduced Rate : 60% of user-paid medical expenses

    Persons provided for in Article 4(1)17 of the Act on the Honorable Treatment of and Support for Persons of Distinguished Service to the State

  • Bereaved family members or family members of a person of distinguished service to the state
    Reduced Rate : 60% of user-paid medical expenses

    Persons covered under Article 5 of the Act on the Honorable Treatment of Persons of Distinguished Service to Independence, and persons covered under Article 5 of the Act on the Honorable Treatment of and Support for Persons of Distinguished Service to the State

  • Persons killed in the May 18 Democratization Movement (including missing persons)
    Reduced Rate : 60% of user-paid medical expenses

    Bereaved family members or family members of a person provided for in Articles 4(1) and (2) of the Act on the Honorable Treatment of Persons of Distinguished Service to the May 18 Democratization Movement and covered under Article 5 of that Act

  • Any other victim of the May 18 Democratization Movement
    Reduced Rate : 50% of user-paid medical expenses

    Persons provided for in Article 4(3) of the Act on the Honorable Treatment of Persons of Distinguished Service to the May 18 Democratization Movement

  • Bereaved family members of any other victim of the May 18 Democratization Movement
    Reduced Rate : 30% of user-paid medical expenses

    Bereaved family members or family members of a person provided for in Article 4(3) of the Act on the Honorable Treatment of Persons of Distinguished Service to the May 18 Democratization Movement

  • Founding members of the armed forces & Veterans discharged from long-term military service
    Reduced Rate : 50% of user-paid medical expenses

    Persons provided for in Article 20(1) of the Support for Veterans Act

  • War Veterans
    Reduced Rate : 90% of user-paid medical expenses

    Persons provided for in Article 2(2) of the Act on Honorable Treatment of War Veterans and Establishment of Related Associations

  • 특수임무사망·행불자 및 부상자의 유족 등, 공로자 및 그 유족 등
    Reduced Rate : 60% of user-paid medical expenses

    Bereaved Family Members or Other Family Members of a Person Killed, Missing, or Injured in the Course of Performing a Special Mission; Contributors and their Bereaved Family Members

  • Persons recognized by the hospital director for the purpose of group therapy and maternal and child health
    Reduced Rate : 30% of user-paid medical expenses
  • Scope of Bereaved Families or Families : Parents, spouses, and children (Provided, that for persons of distinguished service to independence, grandsons and granddaughters shall be included)
  • Cases where bereaved families and other families are excluded from the reduction : Founding members of the armed forces, veterans discharged from long-term military service, and war veterans themselves are beneficiaries of the reduction, but their families are not covered by it.
  • Items excluded from the reduction : Blood transfusion charges, fees for issuance of medical certificates, fees for medical supplies, dental prosthetic materials and assistive devices, and charges for higher-level hospital rooms
  • Treatment at a reduced rate is available after registration with the Patriots and Veterans Affairs.
