The Department of Laboratory Medicine is a specialized medical department that performs measurement, analysis, and interpretation of all types of specimens collected from the human body, such as blood, body fluids, and urine, using various scientific methods, and assigns clinical significance to the results.

Subspecialties include Diagnostic Hematology and Coagulation, which uses automated hematology analyzers to evaluate basic function and cause of anemia, infection, hemorrhage, and thrombosis; Clinical Chemistry, which uses cutting-edge biochemical analyzers to perform liver function, kidney function, blood glucose, lipid, enzyme, electrolyte tests, cardiac marker tests, blood gas analysis, and urinalysis; Diagnostic Immunology, which performs viral serological tests including hepatitis, hormone tests including thyroid function, tumor marker tests, and tests for various infectious diseases; Blood Bank, which performs blood type testing, unexpected antibody screening, and compatibility testing to supply appropriate blood products to patients with blood deficiencies; Clinical Microbiology, which identifies causative pathogens through smear and culture of specimens and finds appropriate antibiotics through antibiotic susceptibility testing; and Molecular Diagnostics, which diagnoses diseases through amplification of genes (nucleic acids).

We inspect instruments and equipment daily and participate in internal quality control and external quality assessment programs organized by the Korean Association of External Quality Assessment Service to ensure reliable test results through thorough quality management, and we have received laboratory accreditation as an excellent laboratory from the Korean Society for Laboratory Medicine Foundation.

We strive to provide information necessary for patient diagnosis, monitoring of progress, treatment, and prognosis determination by performing quick and accurate tests from specimen receipt to result reporting.

In addition, physiological function tests such as various electrocardiograms, pulmonary function tests, arteriosclerosis tests, electroencephalograms, and electromyograms are also performed.
