What Is Home Hospice?

A hospice team composed of physicians, nurses, and social workers provides hospice and palliative care services through home visits to terminally ill patients and families who wish to stay at home.

Eligibility

Available to any terminal cancer patient, including persons of distinguished service to the state and local residents, who can receive symptom management at home or wish to receive home hospice services.

How to Apply

For Inpatients

Apply through your attending physician or nurse before discharge.

For Outpatients or Patients from Other Hospitals

Bring a medical opinion or diagnosis certificate and apply after an outpatient consultation at the Department of Family Medicine.

Required Documents for Outpatient Registration
  • Required Documents
    • Include a statement indicating that the patient is in the terminal stage and requires hospice care
    • If the application is made by a family member: Certificate of Family Relationship and ID card
  • Additional Documents
    • Copy of medical records (progress notes, blood test results, etc.)
    • List of current medications and prescriptions

Application Process

  • Apply through the Department of Family Medicine outpatient clinic or upon discharge.

  • Complete the consent form

  • Consultation with the home hospice nurse in charge

  • Home visit.

Service Area

All areas of Daegu and nearby regions (within 40 minutes one-way from the hospital, subject to scheduling)

Service Fees

  • Patient co-payment: 5%
  • No co-payment for persons of distinguished service to the state eligible for full exemption.
  • Co-payment may apply for bereaved families of persons of distinguished service to the state, decorated veterans, and war veterans, depending on their exemption rate.

Home Hospice Services

  • Regular visits by the hospice team (average 2–3 times per week, determined in consultation with the family based on the patient’s condition)
  • Pain and symptom management (IV therapy, medication, dressing changes, tube care, etc.)
  • 24-hour telephone counseling
  • Equipment rental (oxygen concentrator, suction machine, anti-bedsore mattress, wheelchair, leg massager, etc.)
  • Therapy programs (music therapy, horticultural therapy, etc.)
  • Various event programs (wish fulfillment, emotional support, seasonal events, etc.)
  • Volunteer coordination
  • Community resource linkage
  • End-of-life preparation and care
  • Bereaved family support
