Overview of Designated Consignment

In areas without a VHS Hospital or where VHS Hospitals are located far away, private hospitals are designated as consignment hospitals to ensure that persons of distinguished service to the state and other eligible persons can conveniently receive medical treatment at nearby medical institutions.

  • Occupationally Injured Public Officials

  • 5·18 Democratization Movement Injured Persons
  • Assistance for War-related Veterans
  • Assistance for Duty-related Public Officials
  • Disaster-related Injured Veterans
  • Disaster-related Injured Public Officials, etc.

All Diseases

  • Medical expenses covered under the National Health Insurance Act
  • Among non-covered medical costs, MRI, ultrasound, and digestive tonics are included

Newly registered after July 1, 2012

  • Grade 7 Persons of Distinguished Service to the State
Newly registered after June 23, 2016
  • Mild cases of Agent Orange aftereffects (including second-generation cases)
  • May 18 Democratization Movement Injury Recipients of Grades 12–14

Please note that designated consignment hospitals may charge personal expenses for items not covered under the support categories.

Treatment Period

Inpatient treatment is limited to 30 days (up to 90 days for long-term care hospitals).

If treatment exceeds this period or the government-funded medical cost exceeds 3 million KRW, patients will be transferred to a Veterans Hospital unless there are special circumstances.

How to Use a Consignment Hospital

Visit the designated hospital, present your Persons of Distinguished Service to the State ID Card or Resident Registration Card to verify your eligibility as a government-funded patient, and receive medical treatment.
