The Laboratory Medicine Department (formerly Clinical Pathology Department) at Busan Veterans Hospital is composed of 11 specialized divisions and performs 24-hour testing with a working attitude that always researches and creates. We have secured the necessary testing equipment for patient care and will do our best to introduce the latest equipment and precise testing methods in the future to help with rapid disease diagnosis and prognosis observation.

3. Major Equipment and Functions
1) Biochemistry testing equipment (Automatic chemistry analyzer) Capable of 1600 tests per hour (excluding electrolyte analysis), Requires extremely small sample volume (15ul), performs liver function test, kidney function test, lipid test, blood glucose test, metabolic disorder test, Pancreatic function test, muscle disease test, and a total of 25 items of tests.
2) General hematology testing equipment (Automatic hematology analyzer) Various blood known as anemia test Essential equipment for diagnosing abnormal findings such as hemoglobin abnormalities, leukocyte abnormalities, and platelet abnormalities.
- Currently capable of testing 11 items
- Automatic white blood cell differential counting and reticulocyte counting method
- 24-hour emergency testing available
3) Immunoassay and serology testing equipment (Automatic enzyme-immunoassay analyzer) Various tumor marker tests, AIDS tests, Hepatitis tests, congenital, viral infection tests, thyroid function tests, hormone tests, IgE tests, etc., total of about 40 types of tests available
4) Automatic microbial identification equipment (Automatic microbial Analyzer)
Performs antibiotic susceptibility testing using automatic identification of bacteria and minimum inhibitory concentration of antibiotics against bacteria
- Since susceptibility testing and strain identification are performed simultaneously in one PANEL, time and cost are reduced
- Advantageous for strain identification due to vast database for Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
- DMS system allows efficient data management and easy identification of antibiotic resistance trends.
5) Emergency biochemistry and electrolyte analysis equipment
- Almost all types of biochemical tests are possible
- Electrolyte analysis function that measures Na+, K+, Chloride, Ca++, Lithium, etc. in the blood
- Electrolytes are measured by ISE method, so flame is unnecessary
- 24-hour emergency testing available
6) Arterial blood analysis equipment
Equipment that measures pO2, pCO2, HCO3, pH, etc. in arterial blood
- Diagnoses patient's acidosis, alkalosis
- 24-hour emergency testing available
7) Special immunoassay equipment
- Used for blood drug concentration test, HbA1c (blood glucose index test) rheumatoid test, and blood trace protein measurement
8) Allergy test (Allergy test)
- Performed by immunoblot method, and checks for increase in IgE and 40 types of allergens (20 inhalant and 20 food) can analyze a total of 40 types of allergy causes with a small amount of sample
9) Molecular biology test
- Rapidly detects pathogenic bacteria and viruses using the recently highlighted molecular biology testing technique (PCR method)
10) Physiological Function Test Room - Performs electrocardiogram, pulmonary function test, electroencephalogram, etc., and is currently preparing to perform electromyography required by the Department of Neurology in the Laboratory Medicine Department.
11) Other equipment - In addition to that, we are in charge of testing tasks with about 30 types of the latest equipment.
