About the Department

With advances in medicine, opportunities to save lives have increased and average life expectancy has risen, leading to a growing number of patients with disabilities. The VHS Medical Center’s Department of Rehabilitation Medicine adopts a human-centered, multidisciplinary approach, focusing on helping patients with disabilities recover their physical, mental, and social abilities as fully as possible so they can lead a meaningful and independent life.
Rehabilitation medicine aims to help individuals develop their maximum functional capacity—physical, mental, social—as well as their potential in hobbies, work, and education. Rehabilitation treatment also prevents early-stage complications and supports functional recovery from disabilities resulting from disease or injury.
