The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at VHS Medical Center is divided into two main areas: cardiovascular surgery and general thoracic surgery. The cardiovascular surgery division specializes in the surgical treatment of congenital heart disease, adult heart disease, aortic disease, and other vascular conditions, serving as the central part of the Cardiovascular Center’s surgical care system. We perform complex procedures such as aortic replacement, correction of congenital heart defects, coronary artery bypass surgery, and heart valve surgery, with a strong focus on safety, precision, and optimal outcomes. The Esophageal Cancer Clinic provides early detection, post-operative education, and patient counseling, ensuring continuous and structured care. In the thoracic surgery field, we conduct active clinical and basic research to improve treatments for a wide range of thoracic cancers.
