About the Department

Rheumatic diseases primarily affect the musculoskeletal system (joints, muscles, ligaments) but may also involve chronic, systemic inflammation caused by autoimmune reactions. There are more than 100 types of rheumatic conditions, with major examples including rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout, lupus, Behçet’s disease, systemic sclerosis, and Sjögren’s syndrome.
