The Emergency Room at VHS Medical Center provides high-quality emergency medical services using carefully selected equipment and facilities. When necessary, we offer specialized care in collaboration with various clinical departments, ensuring that emergency treatment prioritizes the patient’s well-being above all else.

Emergency Room On-duty Departments: Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, Neurology, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, and Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine

Emergency treatment is prioritized based on the patient’s condition (emergency or severity), rather than the order of registration. Consultations for non-emergency or less urgent conditions may be delayed. We appreciate your understanding.

Emergency Symptoms

Neurological Emergency Symptoms

  • Acute loss of consciousness
  • Acute neurological deficits
  • Head injury accompanied by vomiting or loss of consciousness

Cardiovascular Emergency Symptoms

  • Conditions requiring cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Acute respiratory distress
  • Acute chest pain due to heart disease
  • Palpitations
  • Arrhythmia and shock

Poisoning and Metabolic Disorders

  • Severe dehydration
  • Drug, alcohol, or other substance overdose or poisoning
  • Acute metabolic disorders (e.g., hepatic failure, renal failure, or diabetic emergencies)

Surgical Emergency Symptoms

  • Acute abdomen requiring laparotomy (limited to severe cases such as acute peritonitis, intestinal obstruction, or acute pancreatitis)
  • Extensive burns (covering more than 18% of the body surface area)
  • Penetrating wounds
  • Open or multiple fractures, or fractures of the femur or spine
  • Vascular injury posing a risk of limb amputation
  • Severe trauma requiring emergency surgery under general anesthesia
  • Multiple trauma

Bleeding

  • Persistent hemoptysis
  • Uncontrollable bleeding
  • Acute gastrointestinal bleeding

Ophthalmologic Emergency Symptoms

  • Eye injury caused by chemical substances
  • Acute vision loss

Allergy

  • Allergic reactions accompanied by facial swelling

Pediatric Emergency Symptoms

  • Pediatric convulsive disorders

Psychiatric Emergency Symptoms

  • Mental disorders posing a risk of self-harm or harm to others

Neurological Emergency Symptoms

  • Altered consciousness
  • Dizziness

Cardiovascular Emergency Symptoms

  • Dyspnea
  • Hyperventilation

Surgical Emergency Symptoms

  • Burns
  • General abdominal abnormalities, including acute abdomen
  • Fracture, trauma, or dislocation

Bleeding

  • Vascular injury

Pediatric Emergency Symptoms

  • Pediatric convulsions
  • High fever of 38°C or higher in children (applies to fever in children aged 8 or younger, occurring on holidays or at night when medical services are difficult to access)

Emergency Symptoms Caused by Foreign Bodies

  • Patients requiring removal of foreign bodies from the ear, eye, nose, anus, or other areas

Emergency management fee

In accordance with the Ministry of Health and Welfare Notification, all patients visiting the hospital’s emergency room are subject to an emergency management fee. If the condition is not considered an emergency or symptoms requiring emergency care (non-emergency), this fee must be fully paid by the patient.
