Patriot |
Individuals who, between the period of Japan’s annexation of Korea and August 14, 1945, resisted Japan’s invasion of national sovereignty or engaged in the independence movement either domestically or abroad, and who were awarded the Order of Merit for National Foundation, the National Foundation Medal, or a Presidential Commendation for their distinguished service. |

War Injured Soldiers or Police Officers |
Military or police officers who were injured during combat or equivalent duties and were discharged or retired, and whose degree of disability has been classified as Grade 1–7 in a physical examination conducted by the Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs.Military civilian employees who, before December 31, 1959, were injured during combat or equivalent duties and were retired, and whose disability has been rated as Grade 1–7 by the Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs. |

Persons with Official Duty Injuries |
Military, police, or fire officials who were injured or disabled (including illness) during the performance of duties or training directly related to the defense, security, or protection of citizens’ lives and property, and whose degree of disability is classified as Grade 1–7 by the Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs. |

April 19 Revolution Casualties |
Individuals who participated in the April 19, 1960 Revolution and sustained injuries, with their disabilities classified as Grade 1–7 according to the physical examination conducted by the Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs. |

Public Officials Injured in the Line of Duty |
Public officials defined under Article 2 of the National Public Officials Act and Article 2 of the Local Public Officials Act (excluding military, police, and firefighting officials), and employees under Article 2 of the Enforcement Decree of the Public Officials Pension Act, who were injured or fell ill (including occupational diseases) during the performance of duties or training directly related to the protection of citizens’ lives and property. Their disabilities must be rated as Grade 1–7 by the Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs. |

June 18 Freedom Award Recipients |
North Korean soldiers or civilian military workers who became prisoners of war of the Republic of Korea or the United Nations Forces between June 25, 1950, and July 23, 1953, and who meet specific conditions. They receive compensation equivalent to that of officially injured military personnel. |

Disaster-related Injured Military or Police Officers |
Military, police, or firefighting officials who were injured or became ill (including disease) during the performance of duties or training not directly related to national defense, security, or the protection of citizens’ lives and property, and whose degree of disability is classified under Article 6 as a disability grade by the Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs. |

Disaster-injured Public Officials |
Public officials defined under Article 2 of the National Public Officials Act and Article 2 of the Local Public Officials Act (excluding military, police, and firefighting officials), as well as employees regularly engaged in public duties for the national or local government as prescribed by Presidential Decree, who sustained an injury (including illness) not directly related to the protection of citizens’ lives or property during the performance of duties or training and subsequently retired. Their degree of disability must be classified as a disability grade in a physical examination conducted by the Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs. |

Slightly Injured Discharged Soldiers |
A soldier injured in combat, during official duties, or due to a service-related accident who has been classified as non-graded (below the official disability grades) in a physical examination. |

Injured Participants of the May 18 Democratization Movement |
Individuals who were injured or developed illnesses as a result of participation in the May 18 Democratization Movement, and who were officially recognized under the Act on Compensation, etc. for Persons Related to the May 18 Democratization Movement as having a disability rating from Grade 1 to Grade 14, and have received compensation. |

Persons Eligible for Support |
Individuals who meet the requirements for persons who died or were injured in the line of duty — including military personnel, police, and public officials — under Article 73-2 of the former Act on the Honorable Treatment and Support of Persons of Distinguished Service to the State (prior to its amendment by Act No. 11041, Sept. 15, 2011). These are persons who, despite the absence of unavoidable reasons and with partial personal fault, died or sustained an injury (Grades 1–7) while performing their duties and were classified as eligible for support under one of the following categories: |
