Lung Cancer Center, VHS Medical Center

Lung cancer is the most common cancer among adult men (ranked first) and fourth among women in South Korea. It also has the highest mortality rate for both genders, making it one of the most prevalent and challenging cancers to treat.
Due to the location of lung cancer, early detection is difficult, and even when suspicious lesions are found on imaging, obtaining an accurate pathological diagnosis can be challenging, often leading to delays in treatment.

Key Features of the Lung Cancer Center, VHS Medical Center

The lung cancer team includes specialists with extensive experience in Medical Oncology, Pulmonology & Allergy, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Radiation Oncology, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and Pathology. Through multidisciplinary collaboration, they strive to provide the fastest, most accurate, and least invasive diagnosis possible.

Treatment of lung cancer primarily involves surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy, with the approach determined based on the patient’s age, overall health, and lung function. These treatments can be combined simultaneously or sequentially to achieve better therapeutic outcomes.

The Lung Cancer Center at the VHS Medical Center provides optimal treatment through a multidisciplinary team of experts in the standard therapies for lung cancer: surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. Considering the high proportion of elderly patients among veterans, the center performs minimally invasive surgery and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) and applies advanced personalized therapies such as immunotherapy and targeted anticancer treatments.
