In South Korea, breast cancer ranks first in incidence among cancers affecting women.Recently, various treatments for breast cancer have been developed and widely adopted, and patients can expect favorable outcomes when receiving optimal therapy.
To achieve this, the center provides accurate diagnosis and specialized treatment for various benign and malignant breast tumors, including surgery, pre- and postoperative chemotherapy, and radiation therapy, aiming to improve both treatment success and quality of care.
The medical team at the VHS Medical Center is composed of specialists in Breast Surgery, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Radiology, and Pathology, all of whom possess extensive clinical experience and expertise in malignant breast tumors. These specialists collaborate closely in a patient-centered, multidisciplinary framework, ensuring rapid diagnosis and providing personalized, optimal treatment for each patient through coordinated teamwork.
The center utilizes advanced techniques for breast cancer diagnosis, such as fine-needle aspiration cytology, stereotactic biopsy, and Mammotome biopsy, which enhance both diagnostic accuracy and the success rate of tumor excision. For patients diagnosed with breast cancer, the center performs precise surgical breast resections and, when appropriate, employs targeted therapy, systemic chemotherapy, and radiation therapy—either individually or in combination—to provide comprehensive treatment. The center employs medical professionals with extensive clinical experience and expertise in breast cancer. Through close collaboration and discussion among specialists, the team determines the best individualized diagnosis and treatment plan for each patient.
When patients visit the Cancer Center for the first time, consultations with specialists and oncology nurse specialists help schedule the necessary tests quickly for diagnosis, establishing a system that enables patients to receive treatment promptly.
Not only the surgery or endoscopic procedure itself, but also underlying conditions that may affect general anesthesia, can significantly impact postoperative outcomes. Multiple specialists with extensive experience in treating elderly patients conduct multidisciplinary preoperative and intraoperative consultations to ensure the best possible surgical and procedural outcomes.

The center utilizes advanced techniques for breast cancer diagnosis, such as fine-needle aspiration cytology, stereotactic biopsy, and Mammotome biopsy, which enhance both diagnostic accuracy and the success rate of tumor excision. Once breast cancer is confirmed, various tests are performed to determine the cancer stage. Using PET, MRI, whole-body bone scans, and chest/abdominal CT scans, the center accurately evaluates metastasis and determines the patient’s preoperative cancer stage.
Treatment for breast cancers is determined not only by the stage of the cancer, but also by factors such as the patient’s age, tumor location, and the presence of other comorbidities. Therefore, the most effective treatment method varies for each individual patient.
For breast cancer patients with complex treatment needs, a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, radiologists, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, and pathologists holds regular collaborative consultations to determine the optimal treatment for each patient.
