The Urologic Cancer Center at the VHS Medical Center is staffed by highly skilled medical specialists and has established an integrated, multidisciplinary care system. The center specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of urologic cancers—including prostate cancer, urothelial cancers (such as bladder, renal pelvis, and ureter cancers), kidney cancer, and testicular cancer—through collaboration among Departments of Urology, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Radiology, and Pathology. With prompt diagnosis and reliable treatment, the center provides patients and their families with the highest quality of care and the best possible outcomes.
At the Urologic Cancer Center, a multidisciplinary team comprising specialists in Urology, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Radiology, and Pathology collaboratively determines the most suitable and effective treatment plan for each patient based on the stage and condition of their cancer. Through regular case conferences, the team actively shares expertise and information across specialties, ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of care for urologic cancers.
At the Urologic Cancer Center, patients can receive guidance through consultations with specialized oncology nurses. The Urologic Cancer Center team works in close collaboration to provide patients with high-quality diagnostic services, personalized treatment plans, and thorough follow-up care—striving to deliver the best possible outcomes for individuals with urologic cancers.
The treatment approach at the Urologic Cancer Center for prostate cancer—which has shown the most significant increase in incidence among men in recent years—is determined not only by the stage of the cancer (early or advanced) but also by various factors such as the patient’s age, serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, histologic grade from prostate biopsy, and results from multiple imaging studies. Based on these comprehensive evaluations, the center provides personalized, optimized treatment options through detailed consultations, including surgery, radiation therapy, or hormone therapy. In addition to prostate cancer, the center also offers accurate diagnosis and stage-specific, specialized treatment for other urologic malignancies.
With the recent introduction of robotic surgical systems, more precise operations have become possible, leading to overall improved surgical outcomes, which include reduced bleeding and less postoperative pain. The introduction of 3D ultrasound technology has enabled more accurate prostate biopsies compared to conventional methods. Furthermore, the implementation of new radiation therapy techniques has significantly reduced rectal complications, allowing for a more refined and patient-centered approach to prostate cancer treatment.
