As persons of distinguished service to the state age, the prevalence of chronic degenerative diseases is increasing, and existing disabilities are becoming more severe. Consequently, there is a growing demand for rehabilitation treatment and assistive devices that can help improve their quality of life.

Our research team aims to establish a systematic research framework for persons with distinguished service to the state with disabilities and based on this framework, to develop prosthetic and assistive devices that can enhance their quality of life.

We strive to play a leading role in the field of rehabilitation and assistive devices by conducting practical research that reflects the needs of persons of distinguished service to the state and provides real benefits, cost-effective studies that offer support at minimal expense, and research focused on advancing public healthcare.

Our main research activities are carried out by three research teams, as outlined below.
1) Clinical Rehabilitation Research Team: Conducts evaluations of the outcomes and effectiveness of specific rehabilitation therapies
2) Motor and Cognitive Function Research Team: Carries out fundamental research aimed at improving motor and cognitive functions in individuals with disabilities
3) Assistive Device Research Team: Focuses on improving the quality of existing products, studying the clinical effectiveness of newly developed devices, developing specialized assistive equipment, and conducting research on the fabrication of assistive devices using 3D printing technology

Veterans Second Leg(VSL) Project: We aim to develop a smart leg prosthesis equipped with an active bidirectional interface and a control system that can recognize the wearer’s movement intentions, enabling the restoration of motor and sensory functions in the degenerative brain.

Collaborating institutions: Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI), Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH), and INTHESMART (ITS)
