In this evolving medical environment, the Veterans Medical Research Institute, affiliated with the VHS Medical Center, was established in August 2018 to provide the highest quality medical services and to conduct public-oriented medical research for persons ofdistinguished service to the state and veterans. Centering on the Veterans Biobank Project, the institute isbuilding disease-specific cohorts for persons of distinguished service to the state. In addition, it isactively conducting research in areas such as genomics, translational and clinical medicine, brain science,and rehabilitation assistive devices, while promoting extensive collaboration with external organizations,including industry, academia, research institutes, and hospitals.

Furthermore, to realizepatient-tailored precision medicine services, the institute is continuously accumulating genetic bigdata.
